This month’s Teldio Roundup splits cleanly into two groups. Three of the bigger announcements circle the same idea from different angles: get your video, your access control, and your credentials off proprietary rails, so you can swap one part without redesigning the whole system. The other two are field stories that make the same point in reverse. Open, connected systems are the direction everyone’s moving. But connecting systems is the starting line. Getting an event is easy now; doing something useful with it in the next few seconds is still the hard part.

 

1. ONVIF releases a Profile V draft for cloud video without vendor lock-in

The practical headline: a conformant cloud VMS can reach cameras behind a local firewall without the usual network gymnastics, and any conformant product can be swapped out without redesigning the system. The quieter, smarter move is architectural — ONVIF split the security requirements into a separate add-on it can update without rewriting the whole spec. Flag it honestly: this is still a draft in member review, targeted to finalize by year-end. Direction to track, not something to spec into a bid yet.

Consolidating video, access, and alarms so a small team can work from one screen is the right call. Just remember that one screen shows an operator everything; it doesn’t decide what to do next. That step stays manual unless something automates it.

For a channel reading this, the margin follows the software up the stack.

That verification loop is the sober part of the design. The open question is what happens in the seconds after a confirmed alert: does it reach a radio in the right hallway and lock the right doors, or does it land in someone’s inbox? Detection is the easy first step.

A new CISA advisory (CVE-2026-10577) covers a widely deployed industrial EtherNet/IP adapter: a network-accessible debug port with no privilege controls, so an unauthenticated remote user could read or delete files, stop tasks, or change I/O states. It reads like a plant-floor problem. But on a flat or poorly segmented network, that adapter can sit one hop from the cameras and door controllers, so the real question isn’t whether it’s patched; it’s who owns that segment, and whether anyone’s mapped what else lives on it. That’s usually where IT and OT stop agreeing.
