NeoTerra To Teldio TruFleet: Your Conversion Questions Answered

Many customers have questions about transitioning from NeoTerra Connex to either Teldio TruFleet or TruFleet Plus. To help you make the most informed decision possible, we’ve compiled answers to the most common questions.

1. Why should I convert from NeoTerra to Teldio TruFleet Plus?

The primary motivation for conversion is that NeoTerra is no longer supported or updated, which means your existing system is at risk of lacking necessary support and updates. Your Motorola MOTOTRBO GPS tracking solution is a major asset to your operation. Teldio TruFleet and TruFleet Plus are both easy-win solutions, especially for existing Motorola and Avtec customers

  • Regulatory Infractions: Non-compliance with industry standards and regulations can result in fines and legal issues.
  • Damage to Equipment: Inability to track and monitor equipment can lead to increased wear and tear, theft, or damage, resulting in costly repairs or replacements.
  • Personal Injuries: Delayed emergency response or inability to locate personnel in critical situations can have severe, life-threatening consequences.

2. What are the concrete steps for converting from NeoTerra to Teldio TruFleet or TruFleet Plus?

The conversion process involves several steps to configure the new system:

  • Radio Network Configuration: Reconfiguration is usually unnecessary as NeoTerra and Teldio TruFleet share the same radio network settings.
  • Network Ports: Open required network ports (documentation provided).
  • Server Setup: Purchase a Teldio server or use your own. If using your own, we will email the Teldio TruFleet software and installation instructions.
  • Radio Information: Provide us with an Excel sheet with radio names, IDs, and icons. For customers with multiple fleets or talk groups, use separate tabs on the Excel sheet. We’ll pre-configure these for you so the customer experiences no change in functionality.
  • Licensing:
    • Offline: Retrieve the license request file from the TruFleet software. We provide the license upon receipt of this file and radio contacts.
    • Online (Internet Access): An online license key is provided after purchase and instantly activated in the WCP configurator.
  • Configuration Generation: Teldio generates and provides a custom TruFleet configuration and installation instructions (in the WCP configurator) after receiving radio contacts.
  • Installation and Verification: We will schedule an installation, remotely connect via TeamViewer to complete it, and verify network connectivity and functionality.
  • Training: We offer Teldio TruFleet user training to ensure effective system support and management.

3. What are the potential pitfalls or factors that can cause delays during the TruFleet conversion?

  • Network Misconfiguration: Any issues we’ve experienced have come from a network misconfiguration. Let’s be proactive and talk about it ahead of time!
  • Radio Codeplug Errors: Delays can result from incorrectly configured radios. Common issues identified include compression settings, location data, and privacy keys, so please share the codeplugs in advance.
  • Connect Plus Incompatibility: Conversions on a Connect Plus radio network can be more complex, as Connect Plus is no longer supported by Motorola. Customers on Connect Plus may need to upgrade to a supported network like Capacity Max or Link Capacity Plus, which can be costly and complex, potentially requiring additional repeaters.

4. Does the conversion require any programming of the radios?

In some cases, zero programming of the radios is required, but we can help set the right expectations for customers if we can get the radio codeplugs in advance.

5. How does Teldio TruFleet and TruFleet Plus compare to NeoTerra neoConneX?

Category NeoTerra neoConneX Teldio TruFleet (TTF)
Primary Role Fleet management, GPS tracking and radio text messaging for MOTOTRBO systems Fleet management, GPS tracking, indoor tracking, radio text messaging, and emergency handling for MOTOTRBO systems
Avtec Integration Yes Yes
Architecture Client/server appliance-based (Linux). Can be on-prem or hosted in the cloud. Client/server appliance-based (Windows). On-prem.
MOTOTRBO Support Works with MOTOTRBO systems. Works with MOTOTRBO radios and Wave PTX devices (outdoor location tracking).
3rd Party Integrations Supports MultiSpeak protocol Supports MultiSpeak Protocol (for systems like NISC, Futura, Milsoft) and JSON Feed Output for flexible custom integrations.
Key Advantages N/A Super scalable (single-site or multi-site), and integratable with other systems (video, panic buttons, etc.) via the Teldio Edge Gateway

6. Does Teldio TruFleet or TruFleet Plus support MultiSpeak protocol?

Yes, Teldio TruFleet works with the MultiSpeak protocol. However, it only supports integration with three specific software applications. Custom integration work is possible for other third-party software, but it is dependent on the third party’s ability to pull the data.

7. Who needs to be involved in the conversion process?

Involvement typically includes internal support teams, external radio channel partners, and Teldio support personnel.

8. Have there been successful conversions in specific industries?

Yes, we’ve successfully converted systems in mining, utilities, oil and gas, and transportation. All installs have been completed without any follow-on troubleshooting required.

9. What is the cost of TruFleet, and what equipment might I need to purchase?

The cost of Teldio TruFleet is dependent on variables like the number of radios being tracked and whether a new server is needed. NeoTerra runs on Linux, and Teldio TruFleet runs on Windows. Notably, as Connect Plus is no longer a supported Motorola network, customers still on this incompatible radio system will face the additional cost and complexity of upgrading to a supported radio network like Capacity Max or Link Capacity Plus, which could potentially involve new repeaters.’

10. What does the Teldio TruFleet architecture look like, and how does it compare to NeoTerra?

NeoTerra’s system uses a Client/Server Application running on a Linux appliance. Teldio TruFleet, however, runs on a Windows-based system, and if you are using it with Avtec, it is installed directly into the Avtec Scout Console. This design provides a “one-stop shop” for GPS and dispatch solutions. The topology diagram below is specifically for a CapMax system, but we can configure a similar image based on your existing network architecture.

11. What other mapping services does TTF support?

While TruFleet offers a robust, user-friendly mapping interface, we recognize that some customers prefer to utilize their existing mapping UI. In these cases, TruFleet can pass on the tracking data to another application.

TruFleet and TruFleet Plus are designed to integrate seamlessly with known GIS/mapping vendors such as Milsoft, NISC, and Futura. Integration with these systems requires knowing the TruFleet server address.

For customers using a mapping system other than these three, we can make the necessary JSON data file available for them to pull. Important Note: TruFleet does not send the JSON file; the customer’s mapping system must implement a listener capable of pulling this data. We can provide documentation to assist with this process.

12. How long does the conversion process take?

The conversion process typically takes 2–3 weeks. This timeline is largely dependent on the customer’s promptness in providing the radio contact list and, if applicable, the offline license request for customers using an offline server.

The customer is solely responsible for the network side of the setup and configuration. They must ensure that the correct ports are open and routing is configured exactly as it is on their existing NeoTerra server.
